What to do When You’re Locked Out of a Car in South Wales or Bristol

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

If you’ve come across this post, the likelihood is that you’ve been locked out of your car. You may have lost your keys, damaged them, had them stolen or locked them inside your car somewhere. Whatever the situation, there’s no need to panic. It happens more than you might think. A huge 16 million drivers in the UK regularly misplace their keys, with 61% not owning a spare and therefore needing further assistance.

In the first instance, relax (easier said than done, we know) and contact an auto locksmith near you. If you are within the South Wales or Bristol area, you can contact our 24-hour mobile emergency service. We’ll be sure to get you back up and running – or driving – that very same day.

The steps to take when locked out of a car

Once you have called a local auto locksmith, they will usually ask you the following questions.

  • Whether you know the location of the keys

  • If the keys are in the ignition and if the car is running

  • If the car is deadlocked

  • Details of the car e.g. make, model and year

  • Whether the car’s windows are electric or manual?

Safety first

After speaking to an auto locksmith, we will try and get to you as soon as we can. In the meantime, make sure you are safe, away from busy roads etc.

If you have locked your keys inside your car, it can be tempting to smash a window to gain access. However, an expert such as ourselves will be able to unlock your car, without creating any damage to you or the vehicle, in order to retrieve your keys.

If it is a warm day and a child or pet is locked in the car, then smashing a window may be the fastest and safest method to get them out.

If you require a new key for your vehicle, for whatever reason, ensure you speak to an auto locksmith. We pride ourselves on our fast turn-around service, meaning you don’t need to wait days or even weeks for access to your car or a replacement key.
